About Us
So what can be said about the store "Swag Records" that hasn’t been said before, DJ Sneak on a recent visit was heard to proclaim, at last a real record shop. Brimming at the seams literally, these 3 floors house music, scun the pun. The shelves at the back of the shop holding back catalogue deleted US 12” are now concave from the years of abuse. To the wonder of many a customer, its a talking point and has been photographed for many a DJ on a PR stunt. No leather sofas here or areas to hang out and look cool, this is a working shop, internet orders bubbling over in the back of the shop to far and wide, with a new website just launched at comparative rates to others. Vinyl junkies looking for that rare or just released promo. They also sell a wide selection of merchandise, bags, dj accessoires, cd packs and more specialist cds not found in the more well known 3 letter shop variety.
Situated in the Bronx of Croydon, aka West Croydon. Excellent public transport facilities on tap, tram stop, bus station and train station all within spitting distance. Swag has tempted people from far and wide, all been given the Swag service, from tea, biscuits to a guest list to London Clubs, and of course a wealth of records that really one should come with time and energy to plough through it all, knowledgable owners in the forms of Paul “Homer” Stubbs & Liz Edwards Also, Dave Mothersole, Terry Francis, Richard Grey, Grant Dell & Richie Littler have all worked there at some point over 16 years and still get their vinyl fix from Swag, not forgetting they are great ambassadors on their trips overseas. Visitors make their pilgramage and are never disapointed, especially when they realise it is only 20 minutes from Victoria, plus the local legends Colin Dale & Grooverider to name a few all feel a need to shop there, if only to return another well-travelled UDG bag.
An open mind and a friendly vibe is what one gets from Swag Records, which is why it has proved to be still as popular as ever whatever your bag, tech-house, minimal/electonic, techno, us/uk funky house, drum and bass, dubstep or as they proclaim just good music. Plus not forgetting those lost souls looking for the Home Office (round the corner), cab office (4 doors up), Russian Grocery (2 doors up), Nigerian Dvds (3 doors up).
Opening hours are 11am till 7pm Monday to Saturday till 8pm Thursday.
